Grand Theft Auto IV
Grand Theft Auto IV - Not just
another video game
For all video game freaks, the name Grand Theft Auto IV does
not bring to mind just another video game. It is a second life
that video gamers lead when they get in to the game. Set in
Liberty City, similar to the Big Apple, this game follows the
exciting adventures of Niko Bellic who comes to the United
States in search of fortune after serving the Bosnian War.
Eventually he gets involved in crime and finds out that no such
thing as the Great American Dream exists. The realistic
storyline of this game is one more reason why it became an
overnight success after the series was introduced in 1997.
The Grand Theft Auto IV promises you thrills every second as
you play the part of a criminal, big time or petty, and try to
kill, rob and steal your way up the underworld. Various
challenges are set before the player, who beats them by
stealing cars, fighting policemen, moving through difficult
terrains, and various other thrills. The player can choose to
be part of a storyline or roam freely across the city. Any act
of criminal nature brings the law into action and it becomes a
cat and mouse game. The nature of the cops deployed depends on
the nature of the crime. In higher levels of law breaking,
special task forces are called and it becomes all the more
challenging due to the ensuing chaos.
The Grand Theft Auto series features games of speed,
adrenaline, and high voltage actions involving no mercy.
However, the Grand Theft Auto IV is introducing a human element
for the first time. There will be ‘morality choices’ at
different points of the game and the player will have to choose
between either killing or letting go of a character. In extreme
cases, choice will also be there of killing either of two
characters. This adds a new dimension to this version of the
game. Also, maximum liberty and powers have been given to the
player. Niko can use all sorts of services to regain his health
in case of an injury. His weapons stay with him after he is
released from a hospital. He can also use his mobile phone to
raise a false alarm, or call the paramedics.
Characters of the Grand Theft Auto IV come from diverse
backgrounds. The lead is of course Niko Bellic, the player
himself, and others belonging to different gangs and ethnic
groups. None of them are returning from the previous games
where they have all been killed.
Grand Theft Auto IV is the ninth installment of the Grand
Theft Auto series developed by Rockstar North and also the
first in its fourth generation that lets you play it online in
a multiplayer mode. A maximum of 16 players can play it online
and choose from 15 different modes of play. You can form teams
and play modes like Team Deathmatch, Team Mafiya, Team Car Jack
City and do crimes like steal cars, contract kill for the
mafiya, or even escort someone to safety.
